I am a regular visitor at Hasami. NAGASAKI for about two years. I have a continued interchange with the local people ever since I made tableware with Mr. Masahiro MORI when I was in MUJI.In the meanwhile, I have heard about the aging and heirless problem among the modelers and painters. A so-called ‘heir-absent’ problem of the traditional industry. The lighting fixture which has been released from IDÉE and has a name in French meaning “Christmas tree”, was made in cooperation with the Ceramic Research Center of Nagasaki (CRCN) and NAKAZEN Co., LTD. In this computer age, I came up with a thought, “why not make something without the help of the modeling maestros ”, and did the complete process with CRCN’s 3D CAD, modeling tools.Did the project have any meaning for the future of this traditional industry? The result is yet to come, but I think it is most important to keep challenging. I would like to continue going into a local industry and think about the production process from the start.
